Today I had another wonderful brew day with Yuri, Mikkeller’s man in Russia. We brewed an American Pale Ale at Knightberg. It was really a pleasure to at Knightberg, the super competent brewmaster Elena Tiukina was not just very sweet and accommodating, she (Oh yes, I mean she) is also a really good brews that did hit all the numbers through the whole day. Today, we brewed a no bull shit IPA. simple malt base, clear and crisp yeast, and an awful lot of American hops. Malt is from Germany, water and yeast is from St. Petersburg, but the hops come from the U.S. To make sure that we got fresh hops, I had to bring it myself. So I packed 20 kg fresh hops in my suitcase before I left Denmark. That meant that I besides hops only had room for a pair of underpants and a toothbrush. I am in Russia right now - and I'm here to brew some beers. Today we brewed two beers in two different breweries at the same time. We got up early and drove to the Metropole brewery here in Saint Petersburg. Here we brewed a Trippel with orange peel, coriander and rose leaves. The new Mikkeller & Friends Bar is slowly coming along. After been knocking down old bricks and dirt from the walls, the ceiling, the floor, the toilet etc etc. we have finally started to build up the place.
